NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
ABOUT US
National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhijis Birth Centenary Year 1969, in Universities involving students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. From its inception, students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers. Motto: -------- The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS Cell of the college provide platform to the students for social service. The cardinal principle of the programme is that it is organised by the students and teachers through their combined participation in social services, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of National Development. Students enrolled as NSS volunteer should put in at least 120 hours of social work in a year for continuous period of two years i.e 240 hours in two years Role and responsibilities of Programme Officer : ----------------------------------------------------------- The Programme officer is expected to inspire student youth to understand the values and philosophy of NSS. The overall function of Programme officer is to help the students to plan, implement, and evaluate the activities of NSS under his charge and give proper guidance and directions to the student volunteers. Duties of NSS volunteers : -------------------------------- • Establish rapport with the people in the project area • Identify needs, problems and resources of the community. • Plan programs and carry out the plan. • Relate learning experience towards finding solutions to the problem identified. • Record the activities in the work diary systematically and assess the progress periodically and effect changes as and when needed. NSS Cell Activities : ------------------------ 1) Regular Activities A) Environment & Conservation. B) Health Family welfare & Nutrition Programme. C) Social Service Programmes. D) E-Waste Collection. E) Awareness for improvement on the status of women (womens day celebration). F) Blood Donation Camp. G) Swachhata Pakhwada etc. 2) Special Residential Camp Camping is an important activity. Special Camp are held at college level for seven days duration. The normal strength for camp is near about 100 .caper enjoy the camp life, learn the virtues of good citizenship and render service to the community. This camp are organized by special project in “Youth for Development” which includes the following programmes- A) Land Reform. B) Non-Formal Education. C) Environmental Improvement. D) Afforestation. E) Tree Planation. F) Economic Development. G) Family & child Care. H) Social Awareness etc.

1. Understand the community in which they work. 2. Understand themselves in relation to their community. 3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving. 4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility. 5. Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems. 6. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities. 7. Gain skills in mobilising community participation. 8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes. 9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters. 10. Practise national integration and social harmony.
